Faculty of Management, GLS University organized an International Conference on Advances in Theory, Research and Practice in Management (ATRPM-2019) on 23rd February, 2019. The prime objective of this conference was to provide a platform for exchange of ideas between experienced and knowledgeable researchers, practitioners and doctoral students in various fields of economy, marketing, finance and human resource. The institute witnessed a huge participation of more than 100 papers of which 105 papers were accepted and selected for conference after a double-blind review process. Of all the presentations, there were awards of best presentation and best paper in categories of corporate & academics and students. The winners received a cash prize and a certificate for the same. Dr. Dharmesh Shah, Registrar GLS University, welcomed all participants and delegates and briefed about research initiatives at GLS University and importance of research for academic and corporate fraternity. Dr. Jasmine Gupta- Vice President (Digital Adoption), Kotak Mahindra Bank, graced the event as the Chief Guest of the function and delivered a key note address on ‘Future of Management Practices’. The audience was mesmerized with her knowledge and expertise in the area of research. The valedictory session witnessed an informative keynote address delivered by Professor Anand Jaiswal– Associate Professor at IIM Ahmedabad on “Future of Management Research”. The event was a grand success and all the participants went with on cheerful note with a promise that the learning will continue to enrich for years to come.

Faculty of Management had organised a workshop on Data Analytics through R and Tableau for IMBA sem Viii students on 05/03/2019.Workshop was conducted by Dr. Bharti Motwani from Balaji Institute Pune. It was very informative and students were delighted to learn new techniques to handle Big Data.

We can is an initiative of IMBA Programme to help their students develop social aptitude along with building managerial skills. The tag line of this noble project is ‘An initiative to spread goodness’. In this project, students make various teams and work towards the need of the society. They pick any social problem and work best to their capacity to reduce the problem by providing a feasible solution to it. Three years on since the We Can project has started, it has been a very successful project as it not only helps reduce the social problems but also brings the level of joy and satisfaction among students for their contribution. This year, there were several teams namely: Goonj, Sahara, Pratikriya, Prayas, Udaan, Abhishti and Saksham were formed and they carried out diverse activities. The details are given below:
a. Saksham: In collaboration with an NGO – Samvedna, the team organised an exhibition wherein the students sold bangles, wallets, tote bags, stole and many other items and successfully collected 11000 rupees through the sales. The amount was later donated to the Samvedna NGO to educate the rural students associated with it.
b. Abhishti: Team Abhisthi had organised a blood donation camp on 7th October 2018 at Prathma blood donation center and collected 57 bottles from donors for Prathma.
c. Udaan: Team Udaan provided stationery to underprivileged students so that they can have basic things like pen, pencil, eraser, sharpener, scale and colour box. They distributed the items in the Municipality School – Pritampura where there were 150 students and in Makarba Slum area where there were around 50 children. The distribution in slum areas was supported by Robin Hood Army.
d. Pratikriya: Team Pratikriya, with the help of Blind People Association organised an exhibition and sold various stuffs like rakhis, diyas, envelops, bags, earrings, pen stands, etc. The sale in exhibition helped them collect around 35000 rupees which were donated to Blind People Association.
e. Sahara: Team Sahara collected 5400 pieces of clothes of various sizes and had distributed the same to various slum areas near Mansi cross roads, Ashram road, Paldi, etc. f. Goonj: Team Goonj chose to have the current generation gap filled with tender love and care. They chose to spend a day at an old age home. They visited Jeevan Sandhya old age home and got involved in the activity of tree plantation. Together students and old age residents planted more than 30 trees. The activity was followed by healthy yet light interaction with the residents to build the bond of belongingness and togetherness.

To keep pace with recent advancement in education and to introduce students with the corporate working and give them insight of various departmental functions across different industries, 75 Students of I-MBA 4th Semester students were taken to Divya bhaskar on December 21st, 2018 along with Dr. Neelam Purey and Prof. Devershi Upadhyay. Fulfilled objectives of industrial visit where they gained production process knowledge, understood vivid working pattern and various crucial insights from Mr. Dhaval Desai, General Manager. Students were also astonished by the process and how Divya Bhaskar is different from its competitors. Management of Divya Bhaskar devoted more than 5 people for giving knowledge and also kept closed eye on all the required assistance. Students were delighted from the learning and outcome of the visit.

Students of Faculty of Management, I-MBA, Semester VII, were taken to Parle Ltd. on 3rd August, 2018 to understand various practical aspects of Strategic Operations Management subject. It was a great learning experience for students as they got an opportunity to see how the Parle –G production takes place. At Parle, Naroda, it was a great experience for students to see that how the Parle Biscuits gets delivered to various locations in Gujarat. The students could easily relate the concepts of Quality Check, Assembly Line, Packaging and Storage Warehousing with the whole process of Parle Biscuits during the visit.
