It was a moment of sheer pride and joy to see our students excelling in various competitions in GLS University Youth Festival - IMAGINATION 2018. The event themed ‘Safarnama’ was held at the stretch of 3 days from 23rd to 25th September and our students have out-performed, considering the practice they did in such a short span of time. It’s a consecutive win for our rocking Garba group of highly enthusiastic and young cadre of IMBA course!!! The students’ long practice hours and their competitive zeal helped them grab 2nd position for best performance & win various cash prizes in the garba competition hosted by Sports Club on 7/10/2018. Later they grabbed the 1st position for best costume along with various cash prizes again in the competition hosted by Gulmahor Greens Club on 8/10/2018. Both the competitions were based on the theme of Shiv stuti – Navdurga. The thematic performances were highly appreciated by the public at large.
In order to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical know-how, GLS’s Management Programmes have nurtured a practice, since last 20 years, of holding Annual Seminar Series featuring dignitaries from different industries of the corporate world. In October 2017, under the auspice of Faculty of Management, GLS University started an eXperts’ Opinion (XO) series, a discussion series in diversified sectors such as Banking, Telecom, IT, Pharmaceuticals, Media, Manufacturing, Retail, Travel, Tourism and Hospitality domains for the students of MBA and PGDM programmes. In addition to this, Faculty of Management has practice of inviting industry experts for delivering sessions on respective industries. Under this guest lecture series, institute invites professionals from varied industries such as telecom, media, banking & finance, insurance, engineering, management consultancy, IT etc to provide comprehensive corporate exposure. The guest lecture series facilitates students to recognize requirements, standard practices, and expectations of the industry in order to get equipped for their corporate career. The experts invited this year include: Mr. Harshal Shelat, Mr. Snehal Desai, Mr. Kamlesh Surti, Mr. Chandan Nath and many other.
PGDM department of Gujarat Law Society had organized FUNSHALA on 15th September, 2018 with an objective to groom students and acquaint them with management skills require to sustain in corporate world. In the event, students applied their market and branding skills and came up with innovative jingles and logos to market their product. As well, students performed role play on different management theme. Brand warriors was an event in which group members have to pick two different brands and it should be replicate with some movie screen. And in another event Market Mover students were asked to prepare a product long with logo and Jingle. In Nutshell FUNSHALA 2018 will remain most memorable to all the participants and audience. All the students have enjoyed an event at its fullest.
With the changing times, the face of the corporate world is also changing, wherein the need-of-the-hour is to have state-of-the-art professionals who are agile enough to meet the growing demands of the industry. ‘Evolve’ was set up to meet the growing needs for soft skills among professionals. For the Academic Year 2018-19, ‘Evolve’ focused on developing soft skills of the II year MBA and PGDM students by conducting workshops on Resume Writing and Interviewing skills by the Evolve team. This was followed by Aptitude Tests where-in skills like Logical Reasoning, Language and Analytical skills were put to test. With an intention to provide a first-hand experience of corporate interviews to II Year students, mock interviews with Industry Experts were conducted wherein they got the opportunity to discuss their knowledge on industry of their preference, job opportunities and industry expectations as well as received constructive feedback on how to improve their chances of cracking an interview. The expert panel comprised of Industry stalwarts like Mr. Vishal Bhatt, DM, Vodafone Idea Ltd with more than 15 years of experience in the area of Marketing, Mr. Japan Shah, JMS Adisory with more than 10 years of experience in the area of HR and Mr. Rohan Bhargava, Senior Manager, IDFC Bank with more than 12 years of experience in Finance. Participants showed great enthusiasm and were eager to apply their newly acquired skills into the corporate world.
